We’re pretty sure history buffs will enjoy all we have to offer at Sauder Village! With more than 40 historic homes and shops to visit, you can easily spend an entire day exploring Ohio’s historic past.

Some things you won’t want to miss:

  • Museum Building: This “treasure chest of Americana” is filled with thousands and thousands of artifacts and intriguing exhibits as well as a special exhibit on the history of Sauder Woodworking and Erie Sauder.
  • “Walk Through Time”: Start at Natives & Newcomers, travel down the path through Pioneer Settlement and finish your journey at the Grime Homestead — such a fun way to experience Ohio history!
  • Historic trades: Be sure to visit some of our historic craftsmen including a cooper, spinner, weaver and many others!
  • Behind the Scenes Tour: Interested in a behind-the-scenes tour with our Curator of Collections? Give us a call before your visit to learn more about this special opportunity (additional fee; must be scheduled in advance of visit).

History Buffs Itinerary: Day Two

Make plans to extend your stay with a two-day (or more) getaway! Stay overnight at our Sauder Heritage Inn or Sauder Village Campground. Consider our Country Getaway Package (includes admission tickets, meal gift certificate and overnight stay). Relax in our hot tub and enjoy reading a book or playing a game together at one of the many gathering spots throughout the Inn.

9 am: Enjoy breakfast under our Great Oak Tree and spend time in our pool, hot tub and game room.

10:30 am: Head out to explore more Ohio history! Be sure to check out the Erie J. Sauder Ohio Historical Marker in front of the Welcome Center. Interested in seeing more historical markers in Northwest Ohio? Visit www.remarkableohio.org to search for historical markers in Fulton County as well as surrounding counties (Williams, Henry, Defiance and Lucas).

While history buffs could easily spend two days at Historic Sauder Village, if you’d like to check out some other popular historic sites consider visiting the Isaac Ludwig Mill and Canal boat ride in Grand Rapids and Fort Meigs in Perrysburg (both less than one hour away).
